Sponsorship/Scholarships

Beginning in Fall of 2004, the Missioners began implementing the next phase of a unique sponsorship program for youth and adults in the poverty-stricken neighborhoods surrounding the mission.

Eventually serving up to 200 youths and their families, we hope to employ 8 – 12 Honduran local community members who have distinguished themselves as leaders of integrity to serve as caseworkers for 10 to 20 youth each. This special and individualized attention, that also empowers the Honduran people, will ensure that the child’s physical, educational, spiritual, sacramental, and catechetical needs are being met in the best way possible, helping form Honduras’ Christian leaders of tomorrow.

It is our hope to develop a sponsorship/scholarship program where the child and family truly received individualized support and attention, in addition to pooling resources for the benefit of the entire community.  We are currently in the process of asking each young person receiving help to fill out a comprehensive scholarship application form that will have minimum requirements for GPA, tutoring times each week, requirement to serve as Christian models for their peer group and 3 service hours a week where they will have the chance to serve their fellow Hondurans and make a difference in the life of someone else. 

In its "final" form, the Sponsorship Program will include the following components:

Each youth will have a caseworker with responsibility for no more than 20 youth. Caseworker will ensure that youth's physical, educational, spiritual, sacramental, and catechetical needs are being met, and that his/her family's need-situation is accurately assessed and monitored. Quarterly letters written by the youth will be sent to their sponsors. The child will participate in age-appropriate mentoring/discipleship programs. Opportunities to serve the entire community will be evaluated (e.g. home improvements, water system, etc.) and when possible, youth will participate in the work
